Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day
The second Monday of October is recognized as Indigenous Peoples Day.
This year, Metropolitan's Racial, Equity, Inclusion, & Injustice Initiative (REIJ) and our Howard & Evanston Community Center celebrated with a special event: "African & Aztec Drum & Dance: A Black and Brown Indigenous Traditional Performance." While showcasing African and Aztec cultures dancing in solidarity, the performance also included teachings about history, traditional instruments and dress, plus in-person dance lessons, which provided a truly immersive cultural experience.
September 15 - October 15 marks Hispanic Heritage Month!
Metropolitan's Midway Center recognized this month with a kermes-style celebration, featuring local Latin-owned vendors, raffles, Mariachi music, games, traditional food, activities, and of course lots of dancing!
2023 Equal Access to Justice Awards Luncheon Raises more than $440,000!
Thank you to all who contributed to the success of the Legal Aid Society’s 2023 Equal Access to Justice Award Luncheon! The Luncheon supports the critical legal services LAS provides, and celebrates the pro bono contributions that make those services possible. Together, we raised more than $440,000 to benefit LAS’s programs and the 20,000 clients we serve! You can learn more about the Legal Aid Society here.
